EditGT (Gran Turismo) Class Racing Rules:
Note: Track power is supplied at 18 volts.
Here are the current rules for the Front Range HO Slot Car Racing group members to follow when assembling their slot cars for use when competing in GT (Gran Turismo) Road Racing classes.
The FRHO GT Class has appeal to those who desire maximum performance by allowing increased flexibility and possibility of chassis modifications.
EditGT Body Specifications
- Body may be a hard plastic or resin shell using 2 screw mounts. Screw heads may be ground down for track clearance. Any screws can be used (plastic or metal) to secure the body to the chassis. A windshield is required. The rear window may be removed. Lexan bodies are allowed. Any type of mounting for the lexan body is allowed as long as it does not interfere with other cars on the track and does not violate Body Rule 4.
- Lightening and lowering the body is permitted. Bodies crafted with the addition of plastic/resin weight to lower the center of gravity are allowed. No pans or weights attached to the chassis are permitted.
- Open wheel bodies (Indy, Gran Prix, dune buggy, hot rod etc.) not permitted.
- Car must pass freely through a 1-5/16" (1.313 inches) Tech Block.
EditGT Chassis Specifications
- Must utilize a Thunderjet or Thunderjet type chassis and gearplate. Aurora NOS, Aurora Tuff-One, Johnny Lightning or Model Motoring Thunderplusâ chassis and gearplates are acceptable. Chassis/gearplate swaps between chassis types is permissible. Lightening of the chassis/gearplate is acceptable.
- Gearplate rail may be removed. The front of the gearplate may be machined to assist in lowering the body. Rear screw hole mount area may be machined for body fit. Any of the 3 stock front axle holes may be used.
- Axle and shaft races may be reamed for fit/alignment.
- 3 lamination arms are limited to 13.0 or greater ohm readings. Two lamination armatures are limited to 5.5 or greater ohm readings. Rewinds, dewinds, silver commutators and timing alteration are all permitted. Arms may be balanced and/or epoxied and air gapped.
- Any commercially available ceramic Magnets may be used. Shimming with non-ferrous material is allowed. No additional magnets are allowed.
- Any combination of three gears on the top of the gearplate may be used. Any material (Plastic or metal) is allowed for the gears. Hollow-back gears, drilling or thinning of gears is allowed. Gears may be de-burred, polished and beveled. Drive pinion gears may be 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, or 14-tooth. Crown gears may be 15 or 19-tooth. Any material (Plastic or metal) is allowed for the drive pinion and crown gears.
- Any commercially available solid brush permitted, including domed type brush. No springs or brushcups are permitted. Brushes may be grooved or beveled.
- Any stepped style pickup shoes are permitted, including aftermarket and silver/gold plated pickup shoes. No braids can be added to the pickup shoes. No pigtails or shunts are allowed. No weighted shoes are allowed. Pickup shoes may be altered to limit travel. Chassis may have solder at plate junctions to enhance conductivity. Excess solder, which may constitute chassis weighting, is not allowed.
- Stock Aurora guide pins or stock type replacements are allowed and may be shortened to desired length. The guide pin hole may be beveled/enlarged. Gluing of guide pins to chassis permitted. Only one standard guide pin is allowed. It may be glued to chassis and the pin may be bent or trimmed. Guidepin may be made of plastic or metal.
- Any axles, wheels and tires permitted. Rear axles/crown gears may be shimmed.
