Note: Guideline only. Rail
width varied on each piece of track
measured. Additionally, the actual
width of the metal rail was different
between track manufacturers. Rail
widths are measured from
outside to outside of rail.

From Dennis Sieck
I also have some information that you may want to make available to everyone. This tidbit will help those hobbyists that are building tracks and are having a hard time finding track pieces.
This is a list of track lane spacing for different manufacturers;
This is measured from center to center.
- Lock & Joiner, AFX, TOMY - Lane spacing is 1 3/8ths inches
- Atlas, Lionel, Marchon, TYCO, Cox, Eldon, Lifelike - Lane spacing is 1 1/2 inches
- Ideal - Lane spacing is 1 5/8ths inches
Match Box track is a bit wider than others 3 3/8th inches wide. The lane spacing is 1 1/2 inches. So it could possibly be mated with others that are the same.
For example; to mate TYCO to Atlas you will have to cut one end of each track flush and glue them together. Then just connect the rails with some solder and small wires. Check the slot depth, which may need some adjusting, and you are done.
