The Carrera Pro-X digital system works by the way of a black box or computerized "brain" that is installed into a new or existing slot car track layout.
Standard Carrera cars will NOT work on a layout with the black box installed and conversely Carrera digital cars will ONLY work on a layout with the black box installed.
- Carrera's digital cars require the black box in the system to race.
- Carrera's digital track sections are fully compatible with their standard track sections.
Conversion of standard Carrera cars, or cars from other companies, to Pro-X specifications is not possible, so you'll be limited solely to the use of Carrera Pro-X cars. The revese is also true as Pro-X cars will only work in the Pro-X system.
Passing takes place over the length of two Carrera standard straights so overtaking at full speed is possible. One really cool feature of the Pro-X system is the option of a pit lane that the cars can enter and depart. This system is designed to allow up to four cars to race simultaneously. Carrera offers all pieces necessary to convert an existing layout to digital as individual items (Pro-X Black Box, Pro-X transformer, and Pro-X controllers).
