Mattel took over the Tyco line of slot cars in 1998/1999.

Mattel halted new introductions of cars and sets around mid-2002, however took a chance on a marketing tie-in for the 2008 Speed Racer movie by introducting a few products in 2007 that carried the Speed Racer theme.

During their new product "lull", Mattel Interactive in connection with KnowWonder took a shot an HO slot car racing game for the PC. Geared towards kids Ages 5 and up, the game came complete with two Pistol Style slot car controllers. Similar to the many other non-slot car themed racing games available today, the cars merely "tilt" around corners instead of drifting or even de-slotting as would occur in real slot car racing.
