Assembly Instructions

Enough different parts are included with this kit so that the builder may choose to model his Strombecker Midget Racer in any of several popular styles. For example, using the two exhaust pipes supplied is a necessity for a V-8 powered Midget; however one pipe on the right, and the fuel injector intake bells on the left of the hood indicates that the car is powered by the highly-favored Offenhauser engine; variations in the body colors, decal numbers and trim colors of the car, as well as using one of the two nose and grill combinations offered can produce a highly individualized model with little effort.

If the body or any of the component parts are to be painted, do the painting before finally assembling the model. Before cementing plated parts to the car, carefully scrape the plating from the mounting pin on the part.

Use a small nail or a needle to open the holes in the body shell where the parts are to be located. (Holes opened will depend upon which combination of parts is used.) Push the pins of the part into the locating holes and put a small dab of cement on the pin inside the shell. If a cement tube is too large to reach the pin, put a bit of cement on a toothpick and use that toget the cement to the part. Avoid smearing cement on any visible part of the car, and be certain that the cement used is meant for application to polystyrene plastic material.

Assembly Procedure

  1. Fit a grille, #12, to a nosepiece, #11.
  2. Fit the grille and nosepiece to the front of the body shell, #2.
  3. Fit the rollbar, #7; spring it slightly to fit the pin into the hole atop the headrest.
  4. Mount the radius rods, #8, 9 and 10, and the front bumper, #16, to the body.
  5. Mount the exhaust pipe to the right side of the hood; the mounting pins for this part must either be flush with the inside of the shell when cemented in place, or the pin ends that appear inside the body must be trimmed flush; If this is not done the chassis will not fit inside the shell or, if it does, will have broken the pins and possibly the part while being forced in place.
  6. Mount either the fuel injector bells, #6, or an exhaust pipe, #5, to the left side of the hood.
  7. Mount the windshield, #4, and the drivers head, #3, to the shell.
  8. Decorate the car with decals either as shown or to suit your own ideas.
  9. Push the chassis assembly, #1, into the body shell. Use screw #15 to fasten the chassis to the body at the rear and the guide pin and screw combination, #14, to secure the body at the front of the chassis.
  10. Smooth out and align the pickup wires at the front of the car. Make certain that the pickups are bent toward both the rear and the side of the car as shown below.
